Activists of Centre “Living Upright” over the weekend have participated on the training about media relations within the project “I speak for myself”. Workshops at the hotel “Centar” were held by coordinators of the Novi Sad School of Journalism. During the training the participants have worked on raising their capacities for presentation and self-representation in the media. In order to make easier and more effective communication with the press, participants were discussing about communication with traditional and online media, writing press releases, statements and press announcements, preparation for radio and TV interviews, while the entire second day was devoted to training about the use of social networks. The objective of the media training was to build the capacities of people with disabilities for self-representation in traditional and new media. In the second phase of the project three panel discussions will be held, which will host students of journalism, law and history, representatives of organizations that gather people with disabilities and state institutions in order to increase their knowledge about the history of the disability movement and the rights and status of persons with disability in Serbia, and to explain to the community why advancing the rights of people with disabilities, improves quality of life of the entire community. The project is supported by Mobility International USA (MIUSA) and the U.S. Embassy in Belgrade.
