The Handbook for Journalists “Media coverage of violent extremism and terrorism” was created as part of the project “Improving Media Reporting on Extremism” with the aim of helping journalists avoid unintentional mistakes when reporting on these sensitive topics. The research that preceded the development of the manual indicates the need to educate journalists on how to deal with these topics in an impartial and quality manner. The handbook explains various aspects of approaching the treatment of violent extremism and terrorism – the creation and deconstruction of narratives, the audio-visual component of the message, as well as a number of tools for verifying information.
The manual was created with the financial support of the European Union. Its content is the sole responsibility of the Novi Sad School of Journalism and does not necessarily reflect the views and opinions of the European Union or Hedayah.
