The “Day in your shoes” seminar was held this weekend at the Novi Sad School of Journalism. During the past three days, 30 students of journalism and members of the associations of students with disabilities from Nis and Novi Sad gained theoretical and practical knowledge about the rights and status of people with disabilities as well as about proper and ethical reporting on this subject. “Wearing other people’s shoes” made the strongest impression on the participants. At this workshop the future journalists have had the opportunity to experience situations from everyday life of people with disabilities.
Legal expert Nenad Ciric informed participants of the rights of people with disabilities guaranteed by the law illustrating his lecture with examples from judicial practice.
On Media Literacy and Ethics two workshops were held. Milica Ruzicic Novkovic from the Centere “Living Upright” held a workshop on “Etiquette behaviors towards people with disabilities” and Dubravka Valic Nedeljkovic workshop on “Reporting on persons with disabilities.”
In the course of the project the participants will jointly make 6 short documentaries in order to familiarize the general public with the rights and needs of people with disabilities, especially young people.
The project is supported by the Embassy of the United States.
