MEDEA – Developing Media Literacy to debunk gender related media manipulation and fake news

Erasmus+, October 2024 – August 2025

Objective of the project is providing media literacy tools to promote mindful and responsible media consumption and production, as well as raising awareness and fighting Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence (TFGBV).

In order to tackle TFGBV it is necessary to change the way youth consume and produce media. These are the points of view considered in MEDEA:

Awareness: becoming aware that all media production and consumption is biased, becoming aware of TFGBV is and what facilitates it, becoming aware of the CML 5 Core Concepts on media production.

Action: learning how to take stance against TFGBV, learning to balance our news intake, learning how to fact-check.

Therefore, MEDEA will comprise of three Activities:

A.1) a Toolkit complete with guidelines on the necessary soft skills and attitudes to prevent the spread of fake news and news manipulation;

A.2) an LTTA to train and educate on the matter of media consumption and TFGBV;

A.3) a pilot testing campaign, online and through seminars and events, to encourage youth to take action and take a stance against TFGBV.

Project is funded by the Erasmus+ programme, and coordinated by Jelgavas Zonta klubs (Latvia) in partnership with Skill Up Srl (Italy) and Novi Sad School of Journalism.
